GOOD NEWS FROM SONDRA
DECEMBER 2007

HE IS NOT DEAD…    HE HAS RISEN…

Dear Ones:

I decided to put in a picture of the resurrection, because it is how we should feel.  Look at the disciples.  Was it fear, sadness or awe that they felt when our Lord left them?  I think it may have been a little of each.  God will use this month to prepare hearts to be used to share the Gospel with others, if we are willing.  Whenever I think of what our Lord did for me that Easter, I sometimes wonder if I really deserve it.  Do I spend enough time in His word?  Do I pray enough?  Do I share the Good News?  Do I worry about my families or my neighbor’s salvation?  What does Easter really mean to each of us?  Please stop and take inventory on your life and what you are doing to help yourself and others really understand what Jesus did for us.

I have been busy redoing my yards.  That may not sound very spiritual to you after what I just shared, but my yards were a mess.  Filled with weeds and such a mess I decided to take a few days and make it look beautiful.  After all this is my home and it is where I serve my Lord.  I took out the lawns, because it was too much for me to keep up, and put in black plastic and gravel, with flowers.  My Easter lilies are blooming and I have other flowers as well as palm trees now.  My neighbors saw what I was doing and started giving me flowers to plant.  Now I have this beautiful garden and all it cost me was $89.00.

I have taken 152 photos for the BTS program in August.  I pray that we can raise support for all of them as we did last year.  While I was taking the children’s pictures, I asked one of the smaller young girls how old she was and it sounded like she said three, but she said thirteen. (three and thirteen sound a lot alike in Spanish) So I asked her if she was three and she said, “NO, I am 13!” Of course, all the children were laughing and the picture turned out adorable.  Sometimes, it is hard to get these darling children to smile so I have to do crazy things to get their attention.  Wait until you see some of these smiling faces.  I know that you will want to help.   I have three more that are going into the University, one boy and two girls.  It costs around $250.00 per year for their basic help, counting tuition and books.  Don’t worry if you can’t send in all their support, I can probably get someone else to support the child.  Elementary and Jr. High will remain the same $65.00, Jr. High will be $75.00 and Sr. High will have to be raised to $110.00.  They have raised the tuition and are making the students buy T-shirts as well as buy all their books. Please send funds to Tecate Mission, address below.  Start putting those $$$ aside.  You can send in a few $$ a month if you want to.  This year I ask that you send the funds in before the end of July so that I can purchase the supplies, uniforms, shoes and tennis shoes before the children start school.  I want to take this time to thank you all for your past help and ask that you consider helping again this year.  It is a worthy cause.

Last December, Maria and Luis Ayon celebrated their 50th Wedding Anniversary with most of their children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Some of you don’t know them, but they are the ones who helped Jim and I plant the church here in Colinas.  They also worked with us when Jim and I felt called to work in Mexico and they are the reason we came here.

In the Women’s Bible and Craft class there are seven women being discipled

right now.  I would ask for your prayers for them as they learn what it is to be a

Christian and follow Jesus.  We have been making rag rugs, servilletas, (which are embroidered towels for bread) and flowers from plastic holders.

AWANA club is up to 15-18 children every week.  We even have on young man who is 18 and who has just started at the University of Guadalajara coming every week.  He is more faithful than many of the children.  He is not a Christian yet, but we are praying for him as he attends the services.

English classes are staying pretty even.  Beginners have from 10-12 students every Tuesday and Thursday from 4:30pm to 5:30 pm.  Intermediates have 5-7 every Tuesday and Thursday from 5:30 pm to 6:30 pm.  Advanced has dropped to just two students but they are very faithful.  We are learning “This little light of mine right now to go along with the stories of the Life of Jesus.  They have learned nine verses so far this year and three Sunday school songs, as well as many other things.
