“New Mercies I See…”

Morning by Morning

Dear Friend,

Greetings from San Diego, in the precious name of Jesus our Lord and Savior. It is with great joy that I’d like to share some of the countless blessings I have received from our God, the God of grace and mercy.

First of all, on August 1, the US Immigration Department granted me a 3 to 4 month Visa extension. This is an answer to prayers. Praise God and thank you very much. Let us continue to pray and seek His will for the future of the Health Ministry in Ivory Coast. He has the perfect plan and timing for our lives and ministries.

While going back and forth to doctor’s offices with Nancy Preddy, I have learned to trust, lean and rest in His everlasting love. Because Kristin and Steve Preddy’s home is “Mi Casa” I was pleased to welcome mission committees and friends of CABC, Vista Grande Church, Mountain View Community and Marantha Churches to share with them about the Clinic Extension Program ministry. Enjoying friends, sharing and praying with them, fellowship, going out to lunch, books and music continue to be part of my healing process. By the way, my health has improved.

The El Rapha Health Center

Currently 60 employees work at the ER clinic and serve an average of 3,000 patients per month and 60 deliveries. On August 22, Pastor Steve Smith, BGC/Ivory Coast and Dr. Claude Akapo, the El Rapha Clinic director received the wonderful news that the Christian Blind Mission (CBM) out of Switzerland will be equipping our health center to open an ophthamological service in a few months. The service will include an office, but also an operating block. CBM will provide a four year scholarship to train an Ivorian doctor in ophthalmology and a commitment to pay his or her first year’s salary. A mobile team will be trained as well for trips to the interior of the country. This will open many opportunities to share the Gospel in unreached areas. Praise God!

A dental service will also open its doors in a few months. Praise God! In collaboration with the government, Dr Claude Akapo will establish a service for HIV/AIDS patients specifically aimed at pregnant women and children under 2 years old. What an opportunity to love, serve and care for our sisters. What a wonderful opportunity to share and experience the power of the Gospel. Praise God!

The Clinic Extension Program (CEP)

Three years ago God gave me the vision of the CEP. I shared this vision with the BGC, the Servants of Bethany and other women’s groups. They greatly welcomed the CEP, an outreach ministry of the El Rapha Clinic. It opened its doors in February 2004. This was an answer to prayer for the many needy Christian women. Currently Mowa Botembe is working to implement this wonderful ministry for life transformation.

What an encouragement to know that very special friends Pastor Jim and Doris Rehnberg (of CABC) made a strong commitment to pray and support the new ministry. We thank and praise God for His grace and mercy.

The CEP’s three main programs/activities are:

• Community health and nutrition

• Community developments and

• Microloans/microprojects

• Community evangelism

Our main strategies are Information, Education and Communication and the Word of God for loving, caring and healing the body, soul and spirit.

The CEP Nutrition Center

On August 29, the BGC Pastor Steve and Carol Smith, Dr. Akapo and Mowa opened the brand new Nutrition branch of the CEP. Praise God! This new service will not only take care of the malnourished children, but also will provide:

• Nutrition information, education and practical training for mothers

• Disease prevention through healthy food and clean water

• Growth monitoring

• Oral rehydrating

• Breastfeeding

• Immunization

All of these services will help protect the lives of many children and give a better start for their future, their families and their communities.

The CEP Community Development Program

With the assistance of the Servants of Bethany, this program will reach and assist needy SB women (victims of the civil war) with savings, microloans and income generating projects. Mowa will be in charge.

The CEP Community Evangelism

In collaboration with the Servants of Bethany we will teach sensitive public health issues from Christian perspective. The Word of God, the renewal of mind and the power of the Holy Spirit will transform our sisters, their families and communities.

Great is Thy faithfulness!

Please help us to implement this exciting but challenging new ministry. A total of $60,000.00 is needed for the first year. This includes the start up costs and operating expenses, loans, motorbikes, VCR, projector, and a reliable used car/van.

Prayer Requests

• My health, faith and peace

• Mowa’s faith, wisdom and strength

• CEP: prayer partners and financial support

• Ivory Coast: Protection for the country, especially Missions and churches as the presidential election is planned for October 2005.

May God richly bless you
